Bowen Technique uses a series of specific moves over muscle and soft tissue (fascia) to help re-align the body.
These moves are designed to reduce muscle tension and inflammation and stimulate the body’s own healing powers to re-balance and restore health.
Bowen therapy differs from other forms of body therapies like physiotherapy, which often involve physical manipulation to address muscle strain, injury.
The unique characteristics of Bowen therapy is the unique ‘pause’ after each or several moves, which allows the body to respond to the moves applied. This pause time is important for the body and during this time many clients report feeling a warmth, heat or a gentle tingling or pulsing sensation in the body or muscle. The practitioner will often leave the room allowing the body to respond in its own time
In between these moves.
People seek out a Bowen therapist for many reasons, often when a painful condition worsens, or they feel that painkillers are not the answer and only mask the symptoms. Bowen has been shown to be effective in relieving pain (ongoing and short term) either sudden onset from accident or sporting injury or a chronic long-term condition such as fibromyalgia.
Depending on the needs of the individual 2-3 sessions can sometimes resolve the problem or alternatively the therapist will advise a series of visits to manage a more complex issue.
This gentle, non-invasive treatment is suitable from babies to the frail elderly. It has been shown to have an extraordinary effect on a variety of ailments, with back, neck and shoulder problems responding particularly well. It can also help with headache, stress, digestive problems, neurological conditions and RSI (repetitive strain injury)
